Recycling is good for the environment it’s good for your community and it’s good for your… Let’s face it, what you really need to do is get rid of clutter.  I don’t know about you, but boxes tend to stack up at my house. My husband orders tools online all the time. I walked out into my garage a few weeks ago and realized that there was no room for a car because of all of the boxes. To remedy the situation, I broke them down and recycled them over the next few weeks. Now my car will fit into the garage. Boxes aren’t the only thing, of course. You may be able to recycle more than you think.

First of all, computers and old technology. You paid a lot for it and you would be able to sell it except now it’s broken. Try to sell things first, absolutely.  However, there comes a time when you have to realize that the monitor with the broken screen will not be sold. What happens when old computer monitors are recycled? Rare metals are reclaimed and less of the environment has to be destroyed having to search for more metal. Also, a little less landfill is used for your computer. You did a good thing. Go you!

Old appliances are giant pieces of metal waiting to be recycled. Putting them in a landfill is such a waste. Putting them in your yard is a sin. Most of the time retailers that sell you a new item will haul the old one away but there are the odd ones that get left behind. Maybe a water heater that went bad or something a relative stashed at your house is forgotten. If they’re never coming back for it, sell it or recycle it.

How you decide to recycle your junk is up to you. There are services that will come you your house and haul everything away for a price. However, if you’re clever and have some time you may be able to make some money off of your old recyclable junk. Retailers sometimes offer discounts on new phones when you bring in an old one or you can get cash for some metal items. No matter how you choose to do it, you’re helping yourself and the environment by recycling your old junk.  You’ll be amazed at how much of a difference it can make.
